Coordinator, Financial Aid

Job Description:
Full-time, year-round position to coordinate student financial aid eligibility issues, manage federal direct loan program, provide financial aid counseling, and maintain system functions to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Exhibits good communication skills and cooperation with all College staff as a participating member of the Student Services team.
2. Monitors targeted individual students' eligibility and resolve data conflicts and over awards.
3. Makes presentations, leads workshops, and disseminates information regarding the College/Financial Aid in high schools and other community agencies, conducts recruitment efforts to promote financial aid availability and to encourage students to apply and advance educationally.
4. Represents the Financial Aid Office at conferences, business meetings, and training sessions.
5. Utilizes professional judgment on a case-by-case basis to adjust a student's eligibility based on documented mitigating circumstances in accordance with federal statutes.
6. Maintains current knowledge of federal and state regulations related to financial aid programs, to ensure compliance.
7. Manages the Federal Direct Loan program including the processing of applications, certifications, awarding, transmittals, account reconciliations, and default management.
8. Provides financial aid counseling to students and parents regarding all aspects of the financial aid process including loan entrance and exit, repayment, and consolidation options. Makes necessary referrals to other student services.
9. Handles the duties related to ongoing upgrades to financial aid system modules to include testing of upgraded system functions with current data, developing and maintaining necessary functions and formulas needed to remain in compliance with regulations, managing updates required in the financial aid system self service module, and leading staff training regarding changes.
10. Gathers data and prepares regular scheduled reports, including graphics, related to financial aid operations, student aid account reconciliations, financial aid outcomes assessment, unit action plans, and institutional effectiveness efforts.
11. Creates brochures and other advertising materials, notifies webmaster of financial aid updates, and manages portal information for various financial aid programs.
12. Manages the coordination of projects and assignments given to financial aid staff including oversight of day to day office operations where necessary.
13. Participates in the development of institutional financial aid policies and procedures that will positively impact efficiency and quality of services provided.
14. Assists Director in ensuring that the departmental policies and procedures manual(s) are current and complete.
15. Contributes to unit planning, assessment, and college institutional effectiveness efforts.
16. Acts in accordance with College policies and procedures.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Educational: Bachelor's degree required.

Experiential: Minimum of three years' experience in financial aid, student accounts, accounting or student services required, preferably in an educational environment. Must have experience working with integrated data systems. Banner experience desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office with particular emphasis on database and spreadsheet applications required. Experience working directly with diverse populations and providing quality customer service in a high traffic work environment required.

Other: This position demands energy, flexibility, strong detail-oriented skills and the ability to see a task through to its completion. Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable.
