President's Welcome

Dear Current and Prospective FASFAA Members,

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your FASFAA President for 2019-20. I am thrilled to have a chance to lead this phenomenal organization in a profession that I love and for a state that I have grown to call home. Most importantly, I look forward to the chance to work closely with you!

Our FASFAA theme for 2019-20 is “Help FASFAA Open the Door.” As practicing financial aid officers, you open the door to your students and families every day. You make the future possible! In this spirit, our theme this year invites you to also step in to your association and help us reach our members, our peers, and our colleagues in other offices in our institution. We invite you to be part of our association in any way that is possible for you – volunteer for one of our committees, attend a regional workshop or our annual conference, present a session, sign in to our webinars, read or write an article for our newsletter.

FASFAA is so much more than our Annual Conference (although we have a GREAT annual conference). Step in to your association and become an active part of its success. Speaking of conferences, don’t forget to join us from May 26-29, 2020 at the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach!

FASFAA is a dedicated group of more than 700 members who work in every sector of higher education in the state of Florida. We are a dedicated group of financial aid professionals, other institutional staff, and associate members whose work in areas of support for higher education (such as private lending, software, loan counseling, scholarship management, etc.) makes college possible. We are a strong part of our regional association (SASFAA) and have deep ties with our national association (NASFAA). We serve our members, those who are new to the profession and those who have dedicated their life to this work (including our retirees who are a daily reminder of the significant dedication we each make to our field).

Financial aid is a noble calling, and I am honored to serve as your President for 2019-20. If I can be of any support to you during this year, please feel free to call on me.

I am daily reminded of this quote from Aristotle:

“To give away money is an easy matter, and in [anyone’s] power. But to decide to whom to give it, and how large, and when, for what purpose and how, is neither in [everyone’s] power, nor an easy matter. Hence it is that such excellence is rare, praiseworthy and noble.” -Aristotle, Nichomachean Ethics, Book 2, Chapter 9, 350 BCE (est)

We are a group of rare, praiseworthy and noble practitioners, and it is my pleasure to welcome you to be a part of our excellent state association.
