Job Title: Financial Aid Coordinator #2
Job Description: Flagler College invites applicants to apply for the position of Financial Aid Coordinator #2. In this position, the candidate will assist the Director and Assoc. Director of Financial Aid in the daily operation of the Financial Aid Office. Primary roles include: to act as the first point of contact with students and parents regarding financial aid matters; answer questions, inquiries or requests form students, parents and others in person, by phone, email or in writing; Counsel students on applying for aid, the appeal process and financial aid in general; Performs data entry and reviews student files for completeness and determines if a financial aid application file is complete and if not, requests missing information on a regular basis until it is complete; Prepares and sends information notices and Award Letters.
Essential Duties Summary:
∙ Counsels students E – K and their parents on financial aid matters; this includes application for federal, state and institutional aid; application for private scholarships and loans; and explains renewal requirements to continuing students; responds to email and telephone inquiries.
∙ Records in each student file; the forms we require, our requests for forms and the receipt of all forms.
∙ Performs periodic review of incomplete files and then requests the forms and information required to complete the students file. Determines when a file is complete, prepares file for awarding and determines financial aid awards.
∙ Prints and Forwards the official Award Letter to the student with the accompanying loan and work documents.
∙ Organizes documents and maintains student and office files; performs filing, pulls files for review; performs mailing and emailing duties as well as the copying and faxing of documents.
∙ Prepares mass correspondence to students, parents and organizations
∙ Coordinators work closely with the Business Office regarding student aid and payment issues and the Registrar regarding grades, hours, and eligibility issues.
Required Qualifications ∙ High school diploma; college preferred
∙ Financial Aid Office experience is preferable; prior office experience with an emphasis on customer service is mandatory
Knowledge, Skills, Ability Required:
∙ Effective and professional communication skills both verbally and in writing.
∙ Patience and empathy for students and parents. Must be congenial and respectful under stressful conditions. Must treat everyone with dignity and respect.
∙ Student-focused and collaborative. Must have a cooperative attitude.
∙ Responsive an accessible. Responds promptly with appropriate follow through.
∙ Organizational skills and accurate record keeping/data entry are essential. Must be able to multi-task and must be able to deal with frequent interruptions and still maintain a professional persona.
∙ Analytical skills for the review of documents and student files.
∙ Computer skills and experience in data entry are required as well as a proficiency in mathematics.
∙ Knowledge of Word, Excel, using the Internet, and report writing skills are necessary. Must possess a willingness to implement and/or learn new software systems and remain proficient and current with upgrades and changes.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, Ability Preferred:
- Proficient in financial aid programs including PowerFaids, EdExpress, FAA Access to CPS online, COD online, preferred
Physical Demands:
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is typically performed in an office environment. Extensive use of a computer requires long periods of sitting at a desk and reviewing student files. Work also involves college and outside community outreach activities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical exertion is not a normal activity of this position.
