Financial Aid Counselor

Under the guidance of the Financial Aid Director the Financial Aid Counselor will work with students and families to ensure the prompt, efficient and effective delivery of services to Beacon students and/or parents seeking information about the financial aid process. Responsible for maintenance of student financial aid files and coordination of all communication with assigned case loads. Must be committed to quality first class customer service to Beacon's students and families.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

•Advises and counsels students, parents and other interested parties regarding financial aid programs, eligibility criteria, application procedures and the awarding process.
•Responsible for distribution, collection and follow-up required of all application materials necessary to complete the financial aid process.
•Application review and verification including resolution of all files selected by the federal processor as verification files, as well as any file designated by the Financial Aid Office for additional follow-up.
•Resolution of federal C-flags that result from mismatches for selective service, citizenship, etc.
•Award federal, state and institutional financial aid funds.
•Attends recruitment events as a representative of department.
•Coordinates Federal and State Work-Study Programs.
•Provide loan histories and exit counseling to students to ensure understanding of their debt level, repayment, forgiveness, forbearance and deferment options. Utilize information from federal loan servicers and the NSLDS database to establish default prevention strategies.

Qualifications:

•Associates degree (prefer Bachelors degree in Business, Education, or a related field)
•2-3 years customer service experience.
•Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
•Ability to prioritize workload.
•Attention to detail and accuracy.
•Ability to change directions at any given time with or without advanced notice.
