Job Title: Dean of Financial Aid
Location: Daytona State College, Jacksonville, Florida

RESPONSIBILITIES
• The Dean of Financial Aid is responsible for providing hands-on efficient operations, strong leadership, and superior service to 15,000 financial aid applicants, their families, and members of the university community; oversees a $85 million dollar financial aid program annually and administers Title IV and institutional loans, grants, and scholarships to a diverse population of students.

• Under direction from the Associate Vice-President for Enrollment and Student Development work with the Director of Financial Aid Operations and Assistant Director of Financial Aid in planning, organizing, coordinating and directing the financial aid and scholarship programs and services; directing the development, administration, implementation and evaluation of program activities and operations; preparing and administering annual program budgets; ensuring compliance with college policies and applicable State and federal regulations related to financial aid.

• Responsible for the federal and state compliance reporting

• Develop a plan to meet with students to resolve satisfactory academic progress appeals, eligibility appeals, enrollment issues, dependency overrides, and payment of college fees and refunds, and, may refer students to appropriate student services; meet with students to resolve problems, conflicts, complaints and initiate corrective action.

• Provide consultation and assistance to support the enrollment management objectives to recruit and retain students and to provide research and analysis to support institutional policy initiatives related to financial aid awarding.

• Supervise, train and hire and staff of approximately 25

• Develop a comprehensive plan for training and evaluation support staff.

• Develop an internal plan to implement new Title IV regulations including satisfactory progress and the appeals received.

• Independently perform high-level decision work involving professional judgment in the interpretation and application of policy and procedures.

• Coordinate and oversee audits, compliance review and account reconciliation, and ensure institutional compliance with relevant regulations, codes and statutes.

• Conduct regular meetings with staff to inform them of program policies, procedures, and deadlines as needed.

• Provides the strategic direction and leadership for a results-oriented financial aid program of considerable skill and innovation that is consistent with the goals and mission of the College.

• The Dean will be responsible for providing overall strategic direction and leadership of the Office of Financial Aid. The Dean will be a leader a strategic thinker in policy development, enrollment management, and in financial aid.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A minimum of 5 years progressive managerial experience in Financial Aid administration with a comprehensive knowledge in federal and state higher education aid programs, along with Scholarship, Veterans, Federal and Institutional work student programs. Knowledge and experience in working in a high volume, large college environment

• Masters degree or higher required.

• Understands compliance with Federal, State, and Institutional guidelines while maintaining a high level of customer service.

• Has excellent problem solving skills with a record of success in building a motivated and skilled staff.

• Strong people skills required.

• Comprehensive knowledge and management experience with all aspects of the financial aid operations.

• Experience with administration and maintenance of various financial aid hardware and software systems.

• Experience with and the ability to communicate effectively with students from various social, economic and diversity backgrounds.

• Has shown progressive experience in training, supervision, and evaluation support staff.

• Experience in providing the strategic direction and leadership for a results-oriented financial aid program of considerable skill and innovation that is consistent with the goals and mission of the College.

• Be a proactive leader and manager and develop innovative plans and actions while being a solutions oriented team builder. Manage all staff encouraging excellence in regard to customer service.

• Ensure College compliance, quality customer service and delivery of student aid to a diverse constituency. Provide input to the Enrollment Services Plan on strategic initiatives to support enrollment goals and help implement these strategies. Oversee quality assurance activities, and share responsibility in working with an integrated student information system and office.

• Serves on various campus committees and is the point person for all financial aid related inquiries from students, parents, staff, faculty and administration.
