Responsibilities: The Director of Financial Aid reports directly to the Dean of Enrollment Services and is responsible for the direction, implementation, and administration of need-based and merit-based aid programs (Title IV, State of Florida, and institutional and private funds) in accordance with Federal, State, and institutional regulations. The current annual aid budget is $8 million total, which includes $4 million in Title IV funds. While the Admissions team reviews over 1,500 applications for an entering class of 250, the financial aid team will process over 1300 FAFSA applications. Roughly 600 New College students are eligible for Title IV funds, 300 of whom are Pell-eligible.

The Director works directly with the Dean of Enrollment Services, recommending and refining policies and procedures for competitive packaging and financial aid advising practices to recruit and retain students in accordance with regulations and institutional goals. As leader of the Financial Aid team, the Director is responsible for direction, coordination, supervision, training, and evaluation of the team and the unit's work. The Director trains the assistant directors on fiscal tasks related to reconciliation of financial aid and scholarship accounts and trains admissions staff on financial aid matters. The Director coordinates regularly with representatives from numerous campus offices (e.g., Registrar, Business Office, Information Technology, and Institutional Research and Assessment) to ensure accuracy and appropriate practices regarding aid disbursement and tracking, evaluation, and reporting of student information to a variety of sources and constituencies. The Director gathers and analyzes financial aid data to assist the Dean with assessment of financial aid and scholarship programs, and to support informed decision-making. The Director creates and develops electronic packaging rules within the computerized financial aid system each semester and is responsible for testing for all new software upgrades. In addition, the Director performs tracking, budgeting, need analysis, packaging within the computerized financial aid system. The Director of Financial Aid represents the Dean at state-wide public university system meetings, and at national and regional meetings of financial aid professional organizations and associations.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree, supervisory experience and six years of demonstrated, progressive experience in financial aid; or a bachelor's degree and eight years of demonstrated progressive experience in financial aid. Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to set work priorities, manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, hands-on environment while meeting deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work with financial aid software programs and/or relational databases. Familiarity with all federal software and reporting requirements. Ability to travel and work some evening/weekend hours.

Preferred Qualifications: Proven ability to successfully manage SCT/Banner software applications.
